When your wallet is possibly compromised!

A couple of months ago i decided to use my pay-pal account to purchase ethereum for gas fees n stuff like that. A soon as i deposited the ether. there was a second transaction sending my purchased ether out of my wallet and it was done real slick like… it looked like a small amount and since i was new to this, i didn't address it right away…. time went by and i made another purchase using pay-pal and the same thing happened.

This time i contacted metamask and they were great as far as assisting me…. the bad news was that they noticed something called a “sweeper bot “!!! After being totally pissed off, i dug right in and did my homework on this…. funny thing… i have tokens that are worth something and none of them were affected by this attack??? Plus i used some apps like De.fi and my wallet recieved a 100% rating….

what the fuck??? I was more confused then ever. So now i have to find a way to transfer my assets out of my wallet. It's been a long 2 weeks. The good that will come out of this will be me being extra careful and hopefully that will pay off! Be careful in the web3 cryptoverse. It is definitely like the wild west.

  1. hey!

argh, so sorry to hear about this experience. guessing the MM agent shared this, but their knowledge base shares an article which dives deeper into fighting back against sweeper bots if you’re interested. https://support.metamask.io/hc/en-us/articles/5716855323675-Fighting-back-against-sweeper-bots

would also recommend getting a hardware wallet for your assets. you never input this secret recovery phrase anywhere online (not in MetaMask, not anywhere) so it’s a great layer of security. check out more – https://support.metamask.io/hc/en-us/articles/4408552261275-Hardware-Wallet-Hub .
