Happy Bitcoin Pizza πŸ• Day

Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated on May 22.

The 1st ever-use case was demonstrated by Laszlo Hanyecz when he decided to buy two large pizzas with 10,000 Bitcoin worth $41.

Many people feel sorry for Laszlo but he feels proud that he and his family will be remembered forever!

  1. Not knowing anything about the complete story, I’m wondering why he didn’t just buy another 10,000 coins if the value was $12.99. Which I also assume was the price of two pizzas 13 years ago.

  2. Laszlo was an early bitcoin miner. Laszlo is the man that invented GPU mining and he mined well over 100,000 BTC.

His purchase of 2 pizzas was the first time that somebody ever purchased something with bitcoin (that we know of).

Laszlo said that he doesn’t regret spending 10,000 BTC on those two pizzas. He said, β€œI think that it’s great that I got to be part of the early history of Bitcoin in that way.”

That also wasn’t the only time that he bought pizza with bitcoin. He estimates that he spent 100,000 BTC on pizza in 2010.

He said, β€œI wanted to do the pizza thing because to me it was free pizza” and β€œI got pizza for contributing to an open-source project. Usually hobbies are a time sink and money sink, and in this case, my hobby bought me dinner.”

  3. The story is this guy asked on a forum who would have ordered pizzas for him in exchange of bitcoins. He had so many he didn’t care of using lots, he wanted to prove the point that Bitcoin could be exchanged for goods. And the guy who actually ordered pizzas was not even american, from what I recall the guy paid from somewhere in Europe via credit card and received 10 thousand Bitcoins himself (at the time they were worth about 40 dollars)

  4. Doesn’t everyone have an embarrassing purchase they overpaid for because they wanted something right away and was convinced it was a good idea?
Mine was toy and card collectibles in the 90s, we just don’t talk about it
